We're back... now with more produce! (CSA Week One)

This winter, Jeff and I decided to join a CSA. For the uninitiated, CSA stands for Community-Supported Agriculture. Basically, you sign up to get a regular share of straight-from-the-fields produce from a local farmer throughout the growing season. We were excited to try some new fruits and veggies, and to support a local business. After doing our homework, we signed up for a bi-weekly fruit and veggie share from Wayward Seed Farm. After months of anticipation, on June 10th, we went to get our first share!

I meant to photograph everything we got, but... well, I forgot. I did however remember to photograph our beautiful braising greens and gorgeous strawberries.

We also got scallions, cilantro, daikon radishes, and hakurei turnips.

I don't think Jeff or I had ever had turnips, but we made a delicious pasta dish with both the turnips and their greens and raisins. Weird, but delicious! We sauteed the greens with garlic and olive oil - also super yummy. But best of all was the strawberry frozen yogurt we made using a recipe that came from Columbus's (really America's) best ice cream: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. We'd never made frozen yogurt before, and it was easy and absolutely delicious. Here's a link to the recipe if you're interested!

And that was week one!

Yum! You guys really get a good variety. We tried a CSA in Salt Lake last year, and it was really heavy on the zucchini... and light on almost everything else. I don't think there's a huge variety here in the high desert!
