You'll have to forgive us for not posting for a while. Well, you'll at least have to forgive us for not posting for the past 48 hours... the remnants of Ike hit central Ohio pretty hard. 40-50 mph sustained winds, with gusts of 75 mph, for more than 3 hours!
In Ohio!
It was unlike anything I've ever experienced. Needless to say, there are huge branches and trees down everywhere. Fortunately, we only lost part of our lilac bush in the backyard, and our street only lost one tree (which happily didn't cause major damage). Over 300,000 people in Columbus lost power, and they say it could take up to a week to restore power to everyone (in part because some of the Ohio crews had already been sent down to Texas to help down there... oops). We were among the lucky ones who only lost power for just over a day... most of my co-workers still don't have power at home. And of course, what people in Ohio are going through is nothing compared to what TX is facing. But the experience was enough to make me very grateful for the regular flow of electrons through little holes in our walls.
